Compare Medical Costs and Drug Prices: Be an Informed Shopper

Medical Costs

Whether you have a procedure coming up or need to fill a prescription, be a smart shopper and compare prices with our handy tools. Maybe you have a deductible to meet before your benefits start to cover care. Or maybe you’re looking to stretch your Health Savings or Flexible Spending Account dollars as far as they’ll go. Or maybe you’re not sure whether your usual pharmacy has the best price on a medication you’re taking. Whatever the reason, it always feels good to save money! Just log in to your account and Select Tools at the top of the page.

In the Compare Medical Costs tool, you’ll be prompted to provide your zip code and then to choose which type of care you’d like to compare prices on. For example, here’s what you might see if you want to shop average prices for a total knee replacement in your area.

Note: This tool does not confirm coverage for a particular plan. Follow up with a phone call to your doctor or provider for exact pricing.

Drug Costs

In the Compare Drug Prices tool, you can look up new medications or click the Prescription History tab at the top to compare prices for medicine you already take. For a new medicine, here’s an example of what you’ll see if you enter Synthroid, a common medication for hypothyroidism.

Some drugs are $0 at Publix and $4 at Walmart. Plus, mail-order prescriptions are convenient and often cheaper, and you’ll get to see that option first. If you want to explore other options, click on “Compare pharmacy pricing” as circled above, and that will take you to the screen to plug in your zip code and see prices for a particular drug at pharmacies close to home.

Value Choice Provider: See One and Save Even More
