Your daughter is about to drive across the country to attend college in another state. Do you watch her pack and wish her good luck? Or do you take her to get her car checked out before she leaves, just to make sure the engine runs properly and the tires have enough tread?

You notice an expired safety notice posted in the elevator. Do you take the stairs, or think, “This is probably fine,” and stay in the elevator as it creaks and groans its way to the next floor?

And now, several months into a new year, you still haven’t made an appointment with your primary care doctor for a wellness visit. You keep putting it off because you’re too busy, or you don’t want to be reminded of the weight you’ve gained, or you’re worried you’ll need a bunch of tests.

Just like a tune-up helps you steer clear of car problems on the road, getting preventive care, like a wellness visit, can help you stay healthy or catch problems before you feel sick. Think of it as preventive maintenance. Regular health exams and tests can help your doctor find problems early, when your chances for treatment are better.

During your visit, you also can talk to your doctor about any health questions or concerns you have. You and your doctor will work together to create a health care plan that’s right for you. Many preventive care services are available at no cost to make it easier for you to get screenings and immunizations that can help you and your family stay healthy.

As soon as your Florida Blue health plan is effective, you can see your doctor. Make an appointment for your annual wellness checkup (also called an Annual Wellness Visit) right away to stay on top of your health. Most plans include one at no extra cost as long as the doctor is in your plan’s network. See the top right corner of your ID card for your plan name (for example, BlueOptions, BlueMedicare). Check your benefits to see if you have any cost-sharing amounts that apply. Simply log in to www.floridablue.com. Medicare members should log into www.bluemedicarefl.com.

Do you need help finding a primary care doctor in your plan’s network? It’s easy to search our online directory at www.floridablue.com. Click on “Find a Doctor” to get started. You can log in to your member account to search. If you don’t want to log in, simply select your plan under “Just Browsing.” Or give us a call using the number on the back of your ID card. We’re happy to help you find a quality, in-network doctor close to where you live.
