Easy tricks to eat healthy this holiday season
The holiday season is filled with hustle and bustle of shopping, parties, family get-togethers, and lots of food. You don’t have to miss out on all the fun. Here are a few simple tricks to keep you on track this holiday season.
Don’t skip meals
You may think you are saving calories for later, but most people tend to overeat when they skip a meal earlier in the day. Instead, try a fiber-filled snack to help you feel full and avoid overeating at the party later.
Step away from the table
It’s hard to say no to all the different foods at a party. Fill your plate with mostly healthy vegetables and fruits, whole grain crackers, cheese and lean meats. If you want a treat, choose a small piece of something you really want or that is unique to the season. Once you have your plate, leave the area and the temptation to get seconds.
Drink a lot of water
Did you know that mild dehydration feels like hunger? Drinking a glass of water before you eat can also make you feel more full and help you from overeating.
Keep healthy snacks on hand
Special treats aren’t just at parties—they’re also at work. It will be easier to say no to the treats brought in by your coworkers or the dish of candy on your boss’s desk if you have a healthy snack nearby. Nuts, raisins, fresh fruit or energy bars are a good alternative.
Don’t beat yourself up if you do slip up this holiday season. It’s hard to resist all the treats. Just forgive yourself and try to do better at the next event.
