At Florida Blue, we’re inspired by the work that our neighbors (like you!) do in local communities. From mentoring children, to working with at-risk families and providing care for those in need, we admire the commitment you show in your community every day. These actions make us #FloridaProud. We are #FloridaProud about the organizations we’re featuring in this week’s blog. But we want to hear from you! If you would like to give a shout out to an organization you admire, send us your stories and we’ll share them with our readers and followers in the coming weeks. Florida Literacy Coalition The Florida Literacy Coalition works to deliver English language training and services in Florida’s communities. With its Health Literacy Initiative, the Florida Literacy Coalition teaches Florida residents English language skills on health and nutrition topics. These skills help students interact with doctors and health professionals with confidence. You can learn more about the Health Literacy initiative in the video below: PACE Center for Girls The PACE Center for Girls works to support at-risk girls in Florida’s communities by offering education, counseling and training in supportive facilities throughout the state. This non-profit corporation has been nationally recognized as a model for “reducing recidivism and improving school success, employment and self-sufficiency amongst girls” in Florida. Since 1984, PACE has helped over 21,000 Florida girls. You can learn more about the organization in the video below: PCAN: Primary Care Access Network The Primary Care Access Network (PCAN) provides health care for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Florida’s Orange County communities. Made up of 22 faith-based agencies in Orange County, PCAN’s sole mission is to make health care accessible to everyone in the community. Last year, PCAN treated over 120,000 patients. You can learn more about PCAN and their work in this video below:   We’re proud of the work PCAN, the PACE Center for Girls, and the Florida Literacy Coalition do in Florida’s communities. To share your stories about organizations that are making you #FloridaProud, write about them in the comments section of this blog, on our Facebook page, or tweet them with the hashtag #FloridaProud. We’ll share some of these stories with our readers in the coming weeks. It’s an exciting time to be a Floridian. Check out our Florida Blue TV spot to see what can happen when you’re committed to helping others in their pursuit of health.
