Two Numbers You Should Know
Do you know your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose numbers? Ask your doctor to check them at your next visit. Here’s what you should aim for with blood pressure and cholesterol.
If you’re over 60, your blood pressure should be no higher than 150/90. However, if you have diabetes, your blood pressure should stay under 140/90. People under 60 should aim for blood pressure that is 120/80 or lower.
Total cholesterol: 200 mg/dL or less
HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol): 40 mg/dL or higher (lower a major risk factor for heart disease.
LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol): less than 100 mg/dL
