Have you been to the doctor yet this year? Now is a good time to schedule your checkup to check in on your health. These are important, especially if you have a chronic condition like diabetes. Besides spending one-on-one time with your doctor, it’s also a good time for your doctor to do special tests to make sure your diabetes is under control and not causing other problems.

Your doctor will keep a close eye on your health with the following screenings:

  • Kidney disease exam
  • Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) blood test
  • Heart disease screenings
  • Retinal dilated exam performed by your ophthalmologist or optometrist
  • Small wounds on your hands, arms, legs and feet that could grow to become bigger ones if not treated
  • Regular dental checkups to maintain your overall health

Don’t skip your diabetic checkups. Make and keep your regular doctor appointments to be healthy and live well with diabetes.
