Do I need an annual wellness checkup?

A wellness checkup is a great way to start using your health plan, and this visit doesn’t cost you anything extra.* It includes bloodwork and routine health screenings—all you have to do is make an appointment!

To get the most out of your visit with your doctor, make a list and include:

  • Any health changes you’ve noticed
  • Questions or concerns about your health
  • List of medications, including prescriptions, supplements and over-the-counter drugs
  • Recommended preventive services or routine screenings

Having your annual wellness checkup is one of the most important things you can do to keep your health on track. And, depending on your benefits, it could cost as little as $0 out of your pocket! Watch the video below to learn more about why an annual wellness checkup is so important.

My benefits offer an annual wellness checkup for a $0 copay. However, I had to pay a cost share for my checkup this year. What changed?

Many Florida Blue plans cover annual wellness checkups, including covered vaccinations, lab work, and screenings, for a $0 copay. Annual checkups are a great way to keep tabs on your health and catch health issues early. This is called preventive care.

During your checkup, if you need care that’s not preventive, like screening lab work, medical tests or treatments, new or refilled prescriptions, or a referral to a specialist or other doctor, you may have a cost share (out-of-pocket cost) for the office visit.

Also, when seeing a new doctor for the first time, you may need a new patient visit before your checkup. During this visit, your doctor will get to know you and learn about your medical history, and you may have a cost share. Ask your doctor’s office if a new patient visit is required.

You can find your cost share for different types of medical care and prescriptions in your online account under My Plan.
