Members can expect no disruption in care as negotiations continue

We want to keep you informed about the negotiations underway between Florida Blue and Cleveland Clinic Florida (Cleveland Clinic).

Our members have in-network access to all Cleveland Clinic Florida Hospitals, facilities and physicians at least through May 2026 — while our discussions with Cleveland Clinic Florida leadership team are ongoing.

We understand that the news about our contract discussions with Cleveland Clinic Florida may cause concern and uncertainty for our members, especially in Broward County where we are currently engaged in negotiations with other area hospital systems.

We are making significant progress with those local health systems. Resolving this is one of our highest priorities and we look forward sharing the good news once agreements are finalized.

What is happening

  • Cleveland Clinic Florida has notified us of their desire to renegotiate its contracts with us, and we have been in active negotiations discussions with their leadership team to reach a new agreement that’s in the best interest of everyone.
  • Under the current agreement with Cleveland Clinic Florida, our members have in-network access to all Cleveland Clinic facilities and physicians through at least May 2026. We strongly believe that we have ample time to finalize negotiations for a fair and sensible new agreement.
  • With five hospitals and numerous clinical locations across Broward, Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River Counties, Cleveland Clinic Florida delivers high-quality care to many in South Florida. We value our long-standing relationship, which has enabled us to jointly support the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
  • We’re engaged in productive discussions with them and are optimistic about resolving this matter. We want to provide advance notice of the possibility that an agreement may not be reached.
  • Negotiating with providers is a regular part of our business, and we're committed to finding a solution that works for everyone.

What you need to know

  • Our members have in network access to all Cleveland Clinic Florida Hospitals, facilities and physicians at least through May 2026 — while our discussions with the Cleveland Clinic Florida leadership team are ongoing.
  • It is unfortunate that Cleveland Clinic Florida has announced its intention to terminate their current agreement with Florida Blue, and that their communication to their patients and our members may cause unnecessary concern and confusion.
  • As we navigate a period of significant change and uncertainty across the health care industry, we want to ensure that everyone has accurate and timely information about this negotiation.
  • Currently, Florida Blue members have full access to all Cleveland Clinic Florida hospitals, facilities and physicians, at least through May 2026. Following that, should we not reach a mutual agreement, our members would have access under the Continuity of Care provisions required by law.

Understanding the uncertainty

  • We acknowledge that this news may add to the uncertainty and concern our members are already feeling about health care access and affordability, especially in Broward County where we’re currently negotiating with other local hospital systems.
  • Tremendous progress is being made to resume in-network participation of these other hospitals, physicians and health care facilities in Broward, and we look forward sharing the good news once agreements are finalized with these trusted local health care systems.
  • We believe that collaboration, compromise, and mutual understanding are essential to reaching agreements that benefit everyone.
  • We recognize that health care is deeply personal, and the current national spotlight on hospital-insurer negotiations can be unsettling for our members.
  • The health care industry is navigating significant change, uncertainty, and financial challenges, affecting not only hospitals, insurers, and physicians, but also the individuals and communities we serve.
  • We will provide regular updates on the progress.

Our commitment to affordable care

  • As a mission-driven health insurance company and part of a not-for profit organization, our role and responsibility is to advocate for our members and ensure they have access to care that is as affordable as possible.
  • We're committed to reaching new agreements that balance the needs of our members with those of health care providers, keeping costs affordable and sustainable.
  • The rates we negotiate with hospitals directly impact health care costs, so it's our responsibility to find a solution that protects hard-working families, small businesses, and individuals from undue financial burden. It would be irresponsible to agree to excessive rate increases that would unnecessarily drive-up health care costs for our members, many of whom are already struggling to make ends meet.

Transparency and communication

  • We're committed to transparency and will continue to communicate openly and honestly with our members about any updates or changes related to our negotiations with Cleveland Clinic Florida, as we work hard to reach a new agreement with them and avoid any disruption to care.
  • We have a fundamental duty to advocate for our members and provide them with access to high-quality local health care that’s as affordable as possible — a role that's increasingly critical as costs continue to surge.

Working on your behalf

Health care costs are directly affected by the rates negotiated with providers and hospital systems. So, we’re working hard on your behalf to reach an agreement that keeps your costs in check.

We also understand how important it is to maintain your relationships with your doctors and care team. That's why our team is dedicated to finding a solution that preserves these relationships while keeping costs under control — especially during these difficult financial times.

Throughout our years of working with Cleveland Clinic Florida, despite the complexities of these negotiations, we've consistently prioritized patient and member needs and worked together to achieve an outcome that works for everyone.

That’s our goal in this negotiation: a sensible and sustainable solution.

What’s at stake

It's your money on the line. These are difficult economic times and rising health care costs would create more uncertainty and financial strain for our members and the communities we serve.

When health care providers charge more, it raises costs for everyone with higher premiums, copays, and out-of-pocket costs. Our job is to advocate for our customers during these discussions with providers.

Negotiations between health plans and health care providers can be unsettling for members whose access to care may be impacted.

Our priority is protecting your access to quality health care that is as affordable as possible.
