Have you heard of TEDMED
? Well, it was new to many of our Florida Blue employees before they attended a simulcast of the event on April 11-13 at our Jacksonville headquarters. Billed as an innovative discussion among leaders in medicine and technology, the event brought together a diverse assortment of health-related speakers ranging from professors from Cal Tech and Harvard Medical School, to the Chief Technology Officer for the U.S. government, to a dance troupe – and it covered a wealth of inter-related health topics.
The hallmark of TEDMED is presenting fresh, leading-edge perspectives on common problems. For example, Howard Shapiro
, an internationally recognized biologist, is working on making crops more nutritious so that fewer children starve around the globe. Cookie Monster – yes, the one from Sesame Street! – shared the stage with Scott Jurek
, an author and ultra-marathoner, to discuss the merits of eating your colors. And MOMIX
, world-renowned dancers and illusionists, challenged the audience with their presentation, “Can we reshape your perceptions without saying a word?”
Florida Blue Chief Innovation Officer, Kevin Riley, adds his creative spin to a table drawing during the TEDMED simulcast
According to Kevin Riley, vice president and chief innovation officer at Florida Blue, “It was our intent to challenge employees to take a new view of how they did their jobs, building on the creativity, innovation and passion they witnessed at TEDMED. We hope events like TEDMED will continue to empower Florida Blue employees to embrace the company’s value of Imagination
We encourage you to come back to our blog as we plan to share future Florida Blue innovations.
