This week, Florida Blue Chairman and CEO, Pat Geraghty, was invited by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to speak on the impact the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will have on Floridians. Pat provided Florida Blue’s perspective on the decision – that everyone is entitled to be covered, and that reform in health care is a must. In the spirit of cooperation across the health care spectrum, Pat welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the CEO of a major hospital system, Brian Keeley of Baptist Health South, and the assistant dean of a respected medical college, Dr. Pedro Greer of Florida International University, to help explain just what the ACA may mean to the people of Florida. Few would refute that the ACA, with its thousands of pages of documentation and occasionally ambiguous wording, is a challenge to interpret. That is why Florida Blue has taken the approach to work side-by-side with our key business partners, including members of the provider community, to ensure that Floridians receive the full extent of what the ACA is meant to provide: improved access to high quality care for all. Interpretation of this vital legislation will continue to evolve, and certain outcomes may be decided by the presidential election in November. We at Florida Blue are committed to a taking a team approach in whatever form the ACA will take, and look forward to sharing more with you as we all make this journey. Have questions about the ACA?
