Last weekend, Hurricane Harvey slammed into the coast of southeastern Texas, bringing with it mass destruction and catastrophic flooding. Federal officials predict the deadly storm will force 30,000 people into shelters and as many as 450,000 victims to seek disaster assistance in the coming days.

To support immediate relief efforts assisting those impacted by the storm in Texas and other areas along the Gulf, Florida Blue and the Florida Blue Foundation are making an initial donation of $10,000 to the Salvation Army. In addition we are matching employee donations to the American Red Cross up to $10,000.

Currently, the best way that you can help is by donating to the American Red Cross. You can make a donation here.

Also, OneBlood recently sent more than 100 units of blood to Texas, as the flood conditions are preventing local centers from collecting much needed blood donations. To ensure enough blood is available locally and for Texas, OneBlood is urging all eligible donors to donate as soon as possible.  You can learn more about how to donate here at OneBlood.org.

As Floridians, we know all too well the devastating impact of a hurricane. If you’re able to help, please consider a donation of money or blood to help those in need.
