Why volunteer? With our busy lives, overbooked calendars, and limited resources, what would make you want to stop for a moment to assist someone else, or help a cause? You only need ask six of our employees, named this week as Blue Community Champions of the Year. They are Julie Engelien, Karen Fergusson, Janice Connelly, Laura Johnson, and two honorable mentions: Christy Forrester and Heather Ferrigno.  We’ll be honored to tell you more about them in an upcoming post. No one knows better the benefits of volunteering than the more than 15 agencies we invited to participate in our volunteer fair held April 18 in honor of National Volunteer Week. These tremendous organizations represent a multitude of services offered to diverse communities within the state. In the spirit of giving your time to a good cause, we showcased these organizations so that our employees could connect with a program or project they’d like to support.

The volunteer spirit is alive and well at Florida Blue with employees doing good in the community every day, whether it’s planting a garden at an adult day care facility, sorting through food at Second Harvest, or creating springtime baskets for foster children. Don’t forget to visit our blog next week to learn more about our Blue Community Champions!  Until then, we’d love to know what you do to support a cherished cause or organization in our comments below.
