MIAMI, Fla. - May 28, 2026

Florida Blue, the state’s leading health insurer, has named Alvaro “Al” Molina as interim market president for South Florida, effective June 12, 2026. Molina will succeed David Wagner, who recently announced his retirement following five years of service with Florida Blue.

Molina currently serves as Miami Market Leader, where he has developed strong relationships with customers, community and business organizations, and health care partners across the region. In his interim role, he will be responsible for regional business operations and community engagement efforts across South Florida, working closely with local health care providers, business leaders, and community organizations to improve health outcomes and access to care.

"Al has demonstrated strong leadership and a deep commitment to the communities we serve," said Kari Regar, senior vice president, Florida Market Leader at Florida Blue. "I am confident he will ensure business continuity and superior service to our members and partners across South Florida as we conduct our search."

Since joining Florida Blue in 2023, Molina has helped implement local initiatives that have empowered the South Florida team to bring the company strategy to fruition. In addition, Molina has helped secure multiple Florida Blue marquee member accounts including several municipalities and federally qualified health centers. He currently serves on the board of directors of the YMCA of Miami Dade and Broward, Chapman Partnership, and United Way of Miami.

Molina began his career as a respiratory therapist, working for Baptist Hospital and many local hospitals in the South Florida market. In 1996, he launched a ventilator case management company where he worked with managed care companies. He ran the company until 2016 when he transitioned to Kindred Healthcare Managed Care where he became Executive Fellow and eventually CEO in 2019. In 2022, he was promoted to Market CEO for the hospitals in Coral Gables, Hollywood, and North Florida Kindred in Jacksonville. A Miami native, Molina attended Florida International University and graduated from the University of Miami with an Executive MBA.

Florida Blue will share additional information on permanent leadership for the South Florida market in the coming months.
