Florida Blue and Memorial Healthcare System have signed a clinical integration agreement that aims to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care in South Florida.

“As one of the largest health care organizations in the nation, Memorial Healthcare System is an important ally in helping to create a delivery of care model that seeks to eliminate the fragmentation of care, focuses on quality outcomes, and reduces the cost burden for all stakeholders,” said Pat Geraghty, chairman and CEO for Florida Blue. “We are honored to collaborate with Memorial Healthcare System in bringing the benefit of this new arrangement to our members in South Florida.”

Through a value-based compensation structure, the clinical integration program will help manage medical costs and enhance quality outcomes through preventive care and coordination of services, consumer education, greater transparency and elimination of redundancies in care. This clinical integration program will coordinate care between Florida Blue, Memorial Health Network, a subsidiary of Memorial Healthcare System, and Memorial’s network of hospitals.

Memorial Health Network is a clinically integrated group of 1073 physicians that include 146 Memorial Healthcare System employed physicians and 927 independent physicians – both primary care and specialists – in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Memorial Healthcare System is the second-largest public healthcare system in the country and a national leader in quality care and patient satisfaction. Among its facilities are six hospitals in south Broward County: Memorial Regional Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital South, Memorial Hospital West, Memorial Hospital Miramar and Memorial Hospital Pembroke.

“Memorial is among the organizations that are on the forefront of innovative healthcare, providing quality care while helping to reduce costs,” said Frank V. Sacco, President and CEO, Memorial Healthcare System. “This type of agreement is considered a future healthcare model, and we are pleased to participate on this endeavor.”
