10th Anniversary Sapphire Awards: Recognizing Excellence and Innovation in Community Health
2015 Sapphire Awards and Symposium
In 2015, the Florida Blue Foundation celebrated 10 years of presenting the Sapphire Awards to individuals, programs and organizations that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in community health. Since the first honorees were named in 2005, 60 Sapphire Awards totaling $3.5 million have been awarded to nine individuals and 51 programs and organizations from across Florida. These honorees represent those that have made significant, positive impact on health-related outcomes for Florida’s at-risk people and communities.
The two-day event featured national, regional and Florida-based experts on a variety of issues and topics that included health, health care reform, innovation, childhood obesity, philanthropy and more.
Speakers included Daniel R. Glickman, J.D., Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Vice President, Aspen Institute and Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Congressional Program; Otis W. Brawley, M.D., M.A.C.P., Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, and Executive Vice President of Research, American Cancer Society; and Rachael A. Watman, M.S.W., Senior Program Officer at the Hartford Foundation.
The Sapphire Awards and Symposium is Florida’s only statewide event that recognizes organizations, programs and individuals that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in community health. At the 2015 awards presentation, two individuals, one program and two organizations from across the state were recognized for excellence and innovation in community health.
